Medical/Patient Assistance
The Syracuse Fire Department Airport Division at Syracuse Hancock International Airport provides twenty-four hour emergency medical services, responding to an average of 150 medical service calls per year. The Division's fully trained staff responds to requests for medical assistance in the Airport terminal and anywhere on Airport property. They also respond to calls from arriving flights, should a passenger or crew member require medical assistance. Medical services provided include first aid, patient assessment, basic life support measures such as CPR, spinal immobilization, oxygen administration, cessation of bleeding, splinting of fractures, and respiratory assistance. The staff is also qualified to administer advanced care in cardiac emergencies with defibrillation and cardiac medications. The Syracuse Fire Department Airport Division is part of the Onondaga County and Central New York regional emergency medical system that includes "first responder" fire and rescue units, advanced life support ambulance services, and access to Community General, Crouse, and St. Joseph's hospitals, in addition to Upstate Medical Center. Upstate Medical Center is equipped with a Level One Trauma Center. Working in coordination with a developed emergency medical system, staff members are able to provide medical care and attention for travelers, visitors, employees and guests of the Airport.
